About Prince of Peace Lutheran Church |
History
Prince of Peace had it's beginning in 1987 when Pastor Arno Meyer was called as a Mission Developer to establish a Lutheran Congregation in Southwest Topeka. A core of 37 interested people met in Pastor's home to initiate plans to start a congregation.
First worship was held February 14, 1988, in a Villa West Shopping Center store front. The congregation was chartered June 12, 1988, with 241 members signing the role.
The congregation experienced rapid growth that necessitated the need to build a permanent facility.
Groundbreaking for the new facility began in February 1989.
A dedication ceremony was conducted on February 18, 1990, for our new multi-purpose facility.
Prince of Peace Preschool opened its doors in February 1990.
Phase II construction is complete and was dedicated February 14, 1996. Educational classrooms and permanent offices have been added for much needed space.
Phase III, the construction of the worship and family life center is planned in the next few years.

Sunday School

Prince of Peace is committed to providing loving, fun Sunday School for our
children so that they may learn about God's love. Sunday School is offered for
all children, age 2 and above. The Sunday School hour is filled with Bible
lessons, music, crafts and making new friends in Christ.
Adult Education

Today we are challenged to both understand and to live the faith in ways earlier generations simply were not. Small groups are the way to achieve both Biblical literacy, and strength, comfort and support for living out the faith. Bible study groups are offered primarily on Sunday at 9:45 am, but also during specified times throughout the week. Intentional adult small group ministry is focused around the Word of God and how we put it into action in our lives. Brief examples of previous small adult group classes are Crossways, See through the Scriptures, The Purpose Driven Life and the individual books of the Bible.
Confirmation
Confirmation at Prince of Peace is intended to engage and enrich the faith development experience for grades five through seven. The structure can vary, but for the 06-07 school year, confirmation consists of a Sunday morning class for grades five through seven, and a Wednesday evening class for grade eight. Sunday morning is intended to provide the biblical foundation for what takes place on Wednesday. Both days use material from Faith Incubators.
