Ministry at Prince of Peace

Variety of Ministries

At Prince of Peace, we offer a variety of ministries to serve your spiritual and personal needs, including Adult, Family Life, LWML, Marriage Retreats, Music, Parenting, Parish Nurse, Singles, and Youth ministries.

Parish Nurse

A Parish Nurse is a registered nurse trained to assist individuals and families with maintaining their physical, emotional and spiritual health. At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Mary Hume, RN serves as Parish Nurse on a part-time basis. Others will be assisting her to provide needed services. The Parish Nurse can be contacted by calling the church office at (785) 271-0808 or call Mary Hume at her home (785) 272-5905 or e-mail her at maryh@princeofpeacetopeka.org. She does maintain office hours in her office at the church. Regular blood pressure checks are the first Sunday of each month. No appointment is necessary for either an office visit or blood pressure checks.
Adult Ministry

"Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly..." Colossians 3:16
Today we are challenged to both understand and to live the faith in ways earlier generations simply were not. Small groups are the way to achieve both Biblical literacy, and strength, comfort and support for living out the faith. Bible study groups are offered primarily on Sunday at 9:45 am, but also during specified times at the homes of congregational members and periodically on out of town events. Intentional adult small group ministry is focused around the Word of God and how we put it into action in our lives. Brief examples of previous small adult group classes are Crossways, See through the Scriptures, The Purpose Driven Life and the individual books of the Bible.
Women's Ministry

The purpose of women's ministry at Prince of Peace is to offer opportunities for women to grow spiritually, and for them to serve and reach out to other women and needs in the community and worldwide. Women's Ministry at POP has several categories that you can participate in, including: Hospitality/Fellowship, Mercy, Liturgical Services, Mission/Outreach and Spiritual Growth. The Sunday School hour is filled with Bible lessons, music, crafts and making new friends in Christ. Sunday School Hour: 9 - 9:45 am. For more information, click here.

Prince of Peace Preschool

Because we care about the children of this community, our purpose is to provide a rich learning environment in a Christian setting of love and respect. It is designed to encourage young children to explore, discover and develop basic cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social skills appropriate to their individual levels of development. We believe that our preschool is an extension of your home and your teachings. While we provide a time for Bible stories and songs, we are not and cannot be your child's main center for religious training. We want to aid and support the family in the cultivation of your child's spiritual development. We teach the children about God's love by caring for one another in a loving and respectful manner. Our preschool is now a nationally accredited preschool!

Youth Ministry

The youth have a retreat each summer at Lutheran Valley Retreat (LVR) in Colorado. Opportunities exist to be part of a drama and/or dance (lyrical ballet) teams. National Youth Gathering, Youth Quake, District Youth Gathering are just a few of the youth opportunities to grow & ignite our faith with our youth from Kansas & across the United States. Youth Bible study Sunday 9 to 9:45 am and other times throughout the week.

Music Ministry

Music has always been important in the worship life of Christians, and from the very beginning of Prince of Peace, we have striven to present the very best music we can provide for our members and guests. Choirs and instrumentalists participated even at our first worship service in 1988. We currently have an adult choir, a bell choir and a praise band, which participate in our services.
